NOLA, with my Mom

My Mom came to visit us for a couple of days. She flew into Destin and we had to take her to see the ocean. I'm glad we did, and I wish we had just planned to go swim because the water was glass, and the next day there was a thunder and lightning storm so we didn't end up getting in!

The trip was very fun. Ryker loved having his grandma here. He likes having people stay with us and visit.

Pontoon boat party!

Odd mansion by the bay
Since my mom had limited time here, and may not get another opportunity to see N'Orleans. We decided to drive there, and stay overnight in a hotel. We found an amazing deal for one night stay at the Hyatte Regiancy in N'Orleans, and were just blocks from the French Quarter. The hotel was so fancy, and we laughed when we got there because we didn't realize how fancy it was.We were carrying a cooler among some other things that definitely didn't fit in.

We also took a tour of the Mansion where they filmed the "skeleton key" and "twelve days a slave" The mansion was about an hour outside of the French Quarter. Right after the mansion tour we headed outside to look at the grounds, it started to down pour so bad we decided to run for the car instead of stick around.

Below are pictures of the mourning room. When a woman was in mourning for someone she had to remain confined, and solitary for one year and six weeks. She could only wear black dresses, and wasn't allowed to talk with anyone. During the first six weeks she could only wear this very simple dress pictured below. Apparently wearing a simple dress helped ward off ghosts. Another thing we learned is that if a child passed or a family member, those who visited the family could talk with the husband, but the wife had to remain in confinement.

After the six weeks were over the grieving woman could then wear a fancier gown, the two on the right are examples of these gowns. They also had to put dark curtains over the windows so others would know they were in grieving. Due to the amount of deaths that occurred in these times, many women spent most there lives in grieving.

Many Plantations ( this was a sugar plantation) hired a doctor who would help tend to the slaves. This was the doctors working station and room.

Medicine cabinet made up of mostly alcohols.

The house is built using post and brick construction

After we got rained out, we decided to go get lunch at the B & C Cajun Restaurant. The front of the restaurant was seafood market, and the food was really yummy!

Ryker hadn't gotten any naps, and was so tired, but he was hanging in there and stayed pleasant

got a picture with this good looking guy

They had a stuffed chicken, and it made me laugh!

Here are pictures of our fancy hotel. I wish i'd gotten some from the Elevator too. There were 32 flours, and we stayed on the 22nd. You could look down over the balcony and see down to the third floor/ eating area and shops,  and see across to the other side where there were more rooms.

View from our bedroom of the pool and surrounding buildings

A shoe store we found. All the shoes in this shop were very expensive and unique!

little side alleys all over

Jackson Square

The french Market

An Art museum we found

Mint museum. Showing how coins were made

Houses of N'Orleans

Marie Delphine Lalaruries Mansion. This is one of the stops on the city ghost tour, and the tales of her mistreatment and torture of slaves is gruesome and haunting definitely.

Center Market, we got there famous Mauffalatte sandwich here, it is big enough to feed 4 people easily, and it was pretty tasty!

I am so grateful for the time we got to have with my mom while she was here. We had a fun time exploring N'Orleans, and attempting to go to the beach in Pensacola! It decided to down pour rain, so we headed to Palafox/ main street instead, and walked down to the pier and browsed through the shops. We had a really fun visit, and Ryker enjoyed entertaining my mom while she sat in the back seat with him.

Thanks for the fun visit mom! until next time N'Orleans, we will be back with My Alley side of the family in just a few weeks! Jaxyn my nephew is going to join us too, and i'm excited for all of them to experience N'Orleans, the south and see where we have been living, and how beautiful the beaches are here!

XOXO
