The Engagement, Part 2
September 10th, 2012. The Engagement
Mark and me started to officially date in January, and then we broke up for a while in February, and got back together. After six months of dating we had started talking about marriage. I had prayed about it, and had felt very strongly that this was who I was supposed to marry. Now everyone receives their confirmations differently, one thing I've always believed in is the power of prayer. I'm grateful for that, and the blessings it's brought to my life. So we talked about marriage, and decided that we would get engaged in December, because it would be a good time. We had even gone ring shopping, since rings were on sale. He picked from a few rings and bought one even. So I wasn't in the dark about us getting married at all, I didn't think it would happen though so soon. He had bought the ring in October before I had met his family, we went back packing together, and I thought he would just keep it safe until December.
One my good friends, Mary, had invited Mark and I to go to the Utah county State Fair with her, along with my sister and her boyfriend, Brennan. We wanted to go on that Monday, September 10th, because it was all you can eat Ice cream, for only $3, who can say no to that? Besides that, I love the fair. It’s fun to see the animals, and dress up.
We all dressed up in our most country clothing and headed off to the fair for all you can eat Ice cream, fried frog legs, Ferris wheels, and animals. After gorging ourselves with ice cream, and fried food, I wanted to look at the animals. So we headed to the barn. As we were walking there someone suggested that we go on some of the rides after, and of course I was down for that.
On my bucket list at the time was kissing someone on the Ferris Wheel. Silly I know, but after watching shows like the O.C. and the Movie the notebook, it looked and sounded fun . I wasn’t shy about it either.
We spent a while looking at the animals, and then, I think Mary suggested we go and ride some rides before the fair closed. So we got in line for the Ferris Wheel.
I remember the tickets being expensive! $8 for the both of us! I even asked if he was sure about going on the ride.
When we got on the Ferris Wheel Mark was acting really nervous, but I just thought he was acting that way because of how scared of heights he is.
He started to tell me how much he loved me, and that I was his best friend, which I didn't think much of, I thought maybe he just was being sweet and mushy. And that is when he
started to get off the seat while we are up in the air, and he was really nervous.( we had talked about getting engaged in December, so that we would have a shorter engagement).
And said, "you know i want you to be my Wife right?"
As he was saying this, he got down on his knees... and I was trying to figure out what was going on, because i still thought we were getting engaged in December.
Then he pulled out the ring, and said,
" will you Marry me, Rachelle?"
My reaction was priceless. At first I didn’t think it was real, then I started to laugh, which I’m sure he loved, but eventually I said
“ yeah, of course!”
When we got off the Ferris wheel everyone was waiting for us, taking pictures, everyone had known but me. I was completely oblivious! I loved that it had been a surprise. My sister had helped him plan it out, and I think her and Mark did a pretty good job. They know me pretty well, since Animals and Ice cream are two of my favorite things.
Here are some pictures from the fair, and us after we got engaged.
Jana, My sister was the one who suggested he propose at the fair, on the Ferris wheel. love her

The rest is history, Since we’ve been married almost two years, I thought it’d be good to document how it all came to be.
